The Perot Museum of Nature and Science

Perot Museum of Nature and Science
Dallas, TX
27 February 2013
We went with the Watermere group to the Perot Museum. The drive down took about an hour because of traffic, and we arrived at the museum about 10:30.

The museum was crowded and there were many, many school children; one docent told us there were about 2,000 children scheduled for today. The museum was over-crowded with too many children for them to properly interact with or view the exhibits.  A website explains all the possibilities   http://www.perotmuseum.org/about-the-perot/index.html   While we found most of the museum geared toward young people and containing interactive exhibits, there were portions we enjoyed. We made some photos of some of those areas.

Lower Level contains the Jan and Trevor Rees-Jones Exhibition Hall which had an exhibit on how the museum building was constructed.

And the Sports Hall

And the Moody Family Children’s Museum

On Level 2, we enjoyed the Being Human Hall, and the Texas Instruments Engineering and Innovation Hall and the Discovering Life Hall

After those two levels, we decided to eat lunch. The CafĂ© has a very disappointing and expensive menu of salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and other fast food. Should we return, we would either eat some place outside the museum or bring food with us.  Most of the school groups left shortly after noon, so the afternoon portion wasn’t as crowded.

We went to Level 4 containing the dinosaurs in the T. Boone Pickens Life Then and Now Hall and the Expanding Universe Hall.

The mezzanine contains the Rose Hall of Birds. Here you could fly like a bird, see like a hawk, and do other activities.
see like a hawk, and do other activities.

On Level 3, we found the Rees-Jones Foundation Dynamic Earth Hall somewhat boring because it was like an Earth Science course in middle school. We did enjoy the Tom Hunt Energy Hall

and the Lyda Hill Gems and Minerals Hall.

We then made our way back to the Level 1 to wait for the group. The return trip to Watermere began with a driving tour of Dallas’ West End as well as Dealey Plaza; the Schoolbook Depository; and the JFK Memorial. Light traffic made for a quick trip home and we arrived around 3:00.
